Democracy, or the idea of it, is something we in western economies tend to regard with almost religious fervor. Yet like religion, rather than truly engaging with it, most are along for the ride, content to be taken where the leaderships (church and/or state) command. Sure they are both complex animals, but that is the function of those holding power not of the basic concepts themselves. I intend, largely for my own satisfaction, to take a look at democracy; the myth and the reality. I’m sure to tread on some toes along the way, but seeing as it is just you and me reading it there is no real damage meant or done.
